Made For You Comics is a service of Obbo Computing Technologies, LLC. This page covers both how we handle your information and the terms you agree to when you use the site.

Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, process, and protect your information when you use Made For You Comics.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you give us to make your comic: the names, descriptions, places, occasions and other details you enter, the story and art direction you choose, and the photographs you upload.

We collect account information when you create an account — your email address and, if you sign in through another provider, the basic profile information that provider returns.

We collect automatically, as any website does, technical data such as your IP address, device and browser information, and how you moved through the site.

Where you buy a comic we collect payment and, for printed orders, delivery information as described in Sections 4 and 5.

You may enter sensitive information about yourself or others while describing a story. We do not ask for it, and you provide it at your own risk.

3. Photographs and Other Material You Upload

You can upload photographs so that a person, a pet, an object or a place is drawn to resemble the real one. These photographs are uploaded to our storage on Amazon Web Services in the United States. They are not held only in your browser.

A photograph you upload while building a comic is first stored against that draft. If you go on to create the comic, it is kept with the comic, because it is what holds a character looking like the same character from the first page to the last, and what lets you make another issue later that matches the first.

You represent that you own the material you upload, or otherwise hold every right and permission needed to upload it and to have us use it as described here. That includes the permission of any identifiable person in a photograph, and the permission of a parent or guardian where that person is a child.

For material you upload, you grant Obbo a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, transmit, process, adapt and display it for the purpose you submitted it for — producing, editing, storing, printing and delivering the comic you asked us to make — and for operating, securing and supporting the service. That license extends to the third-party providers we use to deliver the service, such as cloud hosting, AI and printing providers, to the extent they need it to do that work.

We do not sell material you upload. We do not use photographs of identifiable people, or comics made from them, in our own marketing without asking you first.

The license lasts as long as we hold the material. Deleting the material or your account ends it for future use, except for copies held in backups, logs and records we are required to keep, and except where the material has already been printed or incorporated into a comic that has been delivered or shared.

If you no longer hold the rights to something you uploaded, or a rights holder tells us you never did, email hello@obbo.me and we will remove it. We may remove or decline uploaded material at any time.

4. Payment Information

Payments are handled by our payment provider. Your card number is entered with that provider and is not stored by us. We keep a record of what you bought, what it cost, when, and the last digits and card type our provider returns, so that we can support the order and keep proper accounts.

5. Printed Orders and Delivery Addresses

When you order printed copies we collect the name the parcel should be addressed to, the street address, city, state, postal code, country, an email address used to tell you about the delivery, and what was ordered.

We use this to print, inspect, post and keep a record of that order. We do not sell it, we do not rent it, and we do not add it to a marketing list.

We share it only with the people and companies needed to complete the order — printing, packing, postal and payment providers — and only the parts of it they need. We may also disclose it where the law requires.

We keep order information while the order is outstanding, and afterwards for as long as we need it for accounting, tax and dispute records. After that we delete it or reduce it to a record that no longer identifies you.

Access is limited to staff who need it to fulfil orders, and it is transmitted over encrypted connections.

Orders should be placed by an adult. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian to place the order for you.

To see, correct or delete an address you have given us, email hello@obbo.me. We may need to keep it until an order already in progress has been delivered.

6. How We Use Information

We use your information to make the comic you asked for, to operate, maintain, secure and improve the service, to fulfil and support orders, to communicate with you about your comics and orders, and to prevent misuse.

7. AI Processing and Third Parties

Comics are produced with artificial intelligence. What you write and the photographs you upload are sent to third-party AI providers, along with cloud hosting, authentication, payment, printing and analytics providers, so that they can perform their part of the service. Providers may change at any time.

8. Data Retention

We keep your comics, and the material they were made from, for as long as your account exists, so that you can come back to them. We keep other data as long as necessary for business operations, including backups and logs.

9. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data where required by law, including under the GDPR and the CCPA. Email hello@obbo.me. Data export may not be available in every format.

10. Data Storage

Data is stored and processed in the United States. By using the service you consent to that processing.

11. Communications

We send emails about your comics and your orders. We may send occasional service announcements. You may opt out of anything that is not about an order you placed.

12. Children

The service is not intended for users under 13, and accounts must be held by someone at least 13 years old. Comics are very often made about children; the person making and buying one has to be old enough to agree to these terms, and to hold the permissions described in Section 3.

13. Security

We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections and access limited to staff who need it, but no service can guarantee absolute security.

14. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use local and session storage in your browser to keep you signed in and to hold a comic you are part-way through building. We may load resources from third-party services, such as fonts or analytics, which receive limited technical information such as your IP address as part of a standard web request.

If we introduce advertising or additional tracking technologies we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent.

15. Updates

We may update this policy. Where a change is significant we will say so on this page. Continued use constitutes acceptance.

Terms of Service

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the service, and at least 18 to place an order for printed copies.

2. Account Responsibility

You are responsible for your account and for everything done under it.

3. What You Pay For

Building a comic is free. You choose the cast, the details, the art style and the story, and you see the finished cover, before anything is charged. The published prices apply at the moment you order, and are shown in United States dollars.

A digital comic is delivered to your account as a file. A printed order includes the digital comic it was printed from.

4. Payments, Cancellation and Replacement

Payment is taken when you order. Because each comic is made for one buyer and cannot be resold, purchases are final once production has begun. You may cancel a printed order for a refund of the printing at any time before it goes to the printer; write to hello@obbo.me.

We inspect every printed order before it ships. If copies arrive damaged, misprinted or short, tell us within 30 days of delivery and we will replace them at our cost.

5. Printing and Delivery

Printed copies are delivered inside the United States. Allow roughly two weeks from order to delivery. Delivery times are estimates and depend on the printer and the postal service. If you need copies delivered elsewhere, email hello@obbo.me with the country and we will tell you when we can ship there.

6. AI Content Disclaimer

Comics are generated by artificial intelligence and are works of fiction. Artwork will resemble, but will not exactly reproduce, the people, pets and places in the photographs you upload, and the same details will produce a different comic each time. Nothing produced here is a factual record, and it is not intended for medical, legal or financial use.

7. Content Rights

The comic you pay for is yours to keep, read, print through us, give away and share. Obbo retains broad rights to the inputs and outputs as described in the Privacy Policy, and we do not guarantee that any generated image or story is exclusive to you.

You are responsible for everything you upload. By uploading material you confirm that you hold the rights and permissions described in Section 3 of the Privacy Policy, and you grant us the license described there.

8. Acceptable Use

You may not use the service to:

  • Make a comic about an identifiable person without their permission, or a child without the permission of a parent or guardian.
  • Harass, threaten, defame or sexualise anyone, or depict a real person in a way that would humiliate or endanger them.
  • Impersonate a person or organization, or present a comic as a real record of something that happened.
  • Infringe anyone’s intellectual property, including copyrighted characters and trademarks.
  • Produce illegal content, or content sexualising a minor.
  • Abuse, overload or attempt to circumvent the system.

We may decline, remove or refuse to print a comic, and may suspend or terminate access for misuse.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Obbo Computing Technologies, LLC from any claim arising from your use of the service, from material you uploaded, or from your violation of these terms.

10. Third-Party Services

We are not responsible for third-party services used to provide functionality, including payment, AI, printing and delivery providers.

11. Disclaimer

The service is provided "AS IS" without warranties of any kind, except those that cannot be excluded by law.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Obbo is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you paid for the comic in question.

13. Arbitration and Class Action Waiver

All disputes shall be resolved by binding arbitration. You waive the right to participate in class actions.

14. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Illinois, USA.
